Great Warm Up Exercises from Coach Joey D

The video below features Coach Joey D with some great Pre-Round Warm Up drills that will help every golfer with his or her golf fitness no matter what their ability. This was shot at the Joey D Golf Academy in Jupiter, Florida for the Butch Harmon Golf Academy at the Floridian in Palm City, Florida.

Before you go to the video, I want to bring you up to speed on some of the great things that are happening with Joey, the Academy and the players he is working with.
As most of you know, Joey traveled on the PGA Tour for almost 15 years working with a number of Players over that time.  He began his journey with Vijay Singh which lasted for 7 of those years. Then he worked with notable players like Jason Dufner, Ryuji Imada, Pat Perez, Charlie Wi and several others.
Because his Academy is in Jupiter, and because many of the top players in the world are living in Jupiter, he is working with many more Tour Players than ever before. Most notably, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, Cameron Tringale and LPGA Tour player Alison Walshe. Am I name dropping...certainly!  My point is that Joey's expertise is sought out by the best players on the planet, so when he offers information you know it is the best possible available.
This video shows the same routines that he incorporates with the players.  Try this set of warm ups. It will really help you get the most out of your round.

As a reminder, Joey has a new DVD out called "Golf Body 1". It is available at Joey D Golf or at GolfGym.

Incorporate these movement patterns into your fitness routine for better performance and more enjoyment of the game we love.

Congratulations to Rickie Fowler on his First PGA Tour Victory!

His hard work and dedication to his golf fitness has really paid off.  Thanks to Coach Chris Noss, Rickie's coach while on the Tour and Coach Joey D.  When Rickie is at home in Jupiter, Florida he works with Joey at the Joey D Academy.

Here is some video shot at the GolfGym Academy in 2011 with Rickie showing some of his Pre-Warm Up stretching.

EA Sports was on hand at the GolfGym Academy to shoot video of some of Rickie Fowler's Workout in 2011

How Much Exercise to Lose Weight? Interesting!!!

how much exercise to lose weight
While checking the GolfGym Twitter page this morning, I came across an article written by Coach Calorie titled, "How Much Exercise to Lose Weight - Not That Much".  Given that I am slightly calorically challenged myself...I was drawn to the article.
It illuminates the fact that in our endeavoring to lose weight... too much exercise can in fact be detrimental to the outcome you are seeking. He writes:
"When it comes to dieting and trying to determine how much exercise to lose weight, a “less is more” approach is warranted. Can you lose weight working out 6 days a week alternating strength training with cardio? Absolutely. Is it necessary? Not at all.
Focus your workouts around what’s going to give you the biggest return on your time and effort. Cardio will burn some calories, but it’s not needed to lose weight. Strength training, on the other hand, is mandatory for successful fat loss."
There are two reasons for sharing this article:
1. Many golfers (including me) can afford to lose a few lb's...if you know what I mean. So, this information is helpful.
2. This idea carries over into working on your "Golf Body" (as Coach Joey D calls it) and becoming "Golf Fit".

Getting "Golf Fit" should be thought of the same way. It doesn't take much to start a program and begin to see results on the golf course fairly quickly. Some simple exercises and stretches can go a long way to playing better golf. Programs loaded with too many/too difficult exercises turn off most golfers.

The bigger message here is that if you are trying to lose weight or get a little more fit for golf, make it simple to start and build it up as you gain confidence and strength. You will definitely see the results on the scale and on the golf course.

At GolfGym, we try to make it simple...and with Coach Joey D, we make it easy to follow and it makes sense.

Now get our there and kick some butt.
